Periodontal Deep Cleaning / Scaling

What is Periodontal Deep Cleaning / Scaling ?

Periodontal deep cleaning refers for the cleaning of all the tartar, plaque and bacteria above and under the gum line. The main goal of periodontal deep cleaning is to stop gum disease.

Not everyone needs periodontal deep cleaning. If you suffer from gingivitis ( beginning stage of gum disease) , or further levels of gum disease, you must get periodontal deep cleaning to prevent tooth lost and further damage of your oral health.

In some cases you may not see any visible symptoms of gum disease; if you observe one or more of below , you should be alerted and see your dentist;

  • Bad breath and taste in the mouth
  • Loose teeth
  • Bleeding gums
  • Red, swollen or tender gums
  • Pulled away gum

Periodontal deep cleaning could be performed with local anesthetics to avoid the discomfort. For the next couple of days, your gums may be sensitive ,while brushing your gums might bleed slightly. You may have hot and cold sensitivity.

After cleaning it is important to change your toothbrush with a new one to avoid carrying the bacterias that your old tooth brush may have.
